The Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) has published the second call for Independent Research, an initiative aimed at supporting pharmacological interventional clinical studies in areas of major scientific and public‑health relevance. The topics identified concern two strategic areas: antimicrobial resistance and precision medicine, sectors in which research can offer concrete answers to the emerging needs of public health.
Participation in the call requires the mandatory identification of the thematic area and of the most appropriate line of investigation, to be selected and justified within the study protocol. “The proposals must be submitted exclusively online by 12:00 p.m. on 18 November 2025, through the dedicated portal.
The research objectives are articulated and include, on the one hand, strategies to improve the effectiveness and the appropriate use of antimicrobials, also through new diagnostic tools, pharmacogenomic approaches and stewardship programmes; and, on the other hand, the development of personalised and innovative therapies in the oncological, neurological and psychiatric fields, supported by digital technologies and artificial intelligence
