The Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) has published an update on the access criteria for the AIFA 5% Fund, established by Decree-Law no. 269/2003 and converted by Law no. 326/2003. The Fund, financed by contributions from pharmaceutical companies equal to 5% of annual promotional expenses directed at healthcare professionals, is intended to support the use of orphan drugs for the treatment of rare diseases and drugs that represent a hope of cure for serious pathologies, including those awaiting marketing authorization.
The AIFA 5% Fund represents a fundamental tool for supporting research and access to innovative treatments, strengthening the Agency’s role in ensuring equity, sustainability, and safety within pharmaceutical assistance.
